A Rosemary by any other name would be....Mabel?

My daughter and I started the huge task of trying to sort through my mother and father's pictures and mementos. My mom kept everything from cards, letters, pictures and dried flowers to my first fingernail clippings. In my baby book we found this list. We made the assumption that it is the list of possible baby names when my mom was pregnant with me. I know that my name is a combination of my godmother's and my mom's names....Rose and Mary (I don't have a middle name.) But what if she had decided on.....Karma, Verna, MaeDel, Dolly, Denae or the best one Dema Rhae?....if I had been a boy there was the possibility you'd be calling me Duane, Junior, Preston, Dorman, Marcel or my favorite....Divite!! What were you thinking mom??? Can you see that Dennis is on the girls side?

What a fabulous bit of ephemera to fall upon. Oh, lord. Looks to me like you dodged a few bullets!

MaeDel? I think your grandmother combo name is beautiful. My grandmothers were named Helen and Eva (with a short 'e'). My mom joked that if she'd combined those two names for me, I'd have been one "Heleva" girl.

I don't have a middle name either, so I took my maiden name as my middle when I got married. Same with my sister. We thought it was a good plan of my father's, huh?

I want to know what boy-name was crossed out and why. Got to be a story there.

That's hilarious!! You have given me an idea for a blog post, so I'm off to write it before I forget!!

I'll never think of you in quite the same way, Duane. :-(

I like the name Rosemary...at least you weren't named after a fruit, say something like "Apple"??

That's a keepsake list if I ever saw one. I have but a few bits of things from my parents. They didn't keep any baby books. Had four kids.

LOL, I love this!! I made a list each time with our kids too, the names were just plain in comparison to this list!
The most outlandish name I put on the list was Tuscany..for a girl.

Divite? That's a NAME? Never heard of it.... but then, there's quite a few names on the list that I have never heard of. Your mum had quite a vivid imagination.
I think I like Rosemary the best, and it's not even on the list!

If I were a boy, my name would have been Zachary. Dave and I like that name if we were ever to have a boy, but then his name would be Zach Morris, a la "Saved by the Bell," which I don't know if I could actually do.

That is a cool memento to find from your mother. Pretty neat.

Such an imaginative list. I see where you get your creativity.

Wow, there were some very awesome names in that list I've never heard of. MaeDel for intstance. I think it's always a trip to find out what we would have been named. Though I wonder at my parents for giving me the name they gave me (which actually isn't Chandler, I did that myself).

If I'd been a boy, I was going to be Andrew Jay. With all the beautiful "J" girl names, I dont know why they decided on such a boring one of me. And I think it's wonderful that your parents were able to bestow upon you the names of your mom and godmother.

Here visting after Michelle sent me to Kenju. Great little keepsake you have. Thank god I was not born a boy or you'd be receiving a comment from Padgett instead of Amy!

I am also here visiting after Michelle sent me to Kenju. :-)

That list is just the neatest thing. There are a lot of names that I have never heard of before on there. Dale Carnegie said that a person's name is to them the sweetest sound. :-)

My name is Rosemary too - named after my mom's mom (Rosa) and my dad's mom (Mary). I also don't have a middle name. My mom once told me that one other consideration was Carmen Louise. I'm happy with Rosemary.

I was also adopted and was given a name at birth, which is totally not me and I'm so glad I didn't get stuck with it.

I was supposed to be a boy and my name was supposed to be "Frederick," "Fritz" for short. My parents were completely suprised when I was born.
