I am having MAJOR computer issues. I don't have a virus program....and don't anyone suggest Mca$$fee....I can't download it to my laptop for some reason disc or web site version....lots of bad words there getting my $$$$ refunded.
I am getting Asian symbol emails, undeliverable notices from people I have never heard of, sexual stuff and even another letter from my long lost family in Uganda telling me I have money in a bank. I thought FireFox/Mozilla took care of that stuff but, no....Steve says nope it does not for certain.
I have raised some email level to high, gotten bonked off the Internet multiple times every day and am keeping my fingers crossed I don't have a virus...do I???? I have been able to bring up three blogs and leave comments. Period. I did the disc cleanup and the defrag thing. Sniff. I hope it is just a minor flu but I don't think so and Steve is not inclined to help.

We are related too. I have family I never heard of till recently living in Africa.
I hate when the computer acts up. I know it doesn't like me. I am very grateful to have a live-in IT guy or I never would be able to blog and play on the computer.
I use Avast software. It is free, and much better than Mac*fee and Norton, both of which I have used and hated!! Go to Avast.com.
go to download.com and down load avg anti virus and it really helps..it's all i use and i like it..
I see lots of folks have sugeested using some of the great free antivirus programs.I sent you a link to mine in an e-mail,which you may or may not receive from the sound of things.
If none of theses things work,there is a final solution...Format your hard drive,and reinstall windows...I know,it sucks,and you'll lose all the stuff you don't have backed up on CD,but it will get rid of the virus,and you can set up all your stuff the way you want.
I'm with Yellowdawg - AVG is free and it works great. It helped me recover from a virus taking over my computer without having to do a complete wipe.
Sorry youare having trouble...hopefully some of the stuff that people are telling you helps.

I get a ton of spam including the Uganda family but it's automatically routed to my junk mailbox. I really have no idea, but I use firefox and don't have any problems, but then again i'm on a mac now.

I have had no problems with my computer since I downloaded AVG 8.5It's free too.! You might want to download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and set it up to run once a week. It's free also. It tells you if you have any infected files and gets rid of them.

SpyBots is also good --- their site looks a bit homegrown, but it's really a good program to have. Good luck, computer issues are a real bitch.

I'm a little late to the party here, Rosemary, but if you want to totally avoid the problem... switch to a new OS. Windows is always going to have problems. A easy to use variety of Linux like Ubuntu would allow you to sidestep all these problems. I use it at home and love it.
